Student ActivitiesStudent PublicationThe MSU VARSITARIAN is the official quarterly student publication of the University. It denotes itself mainly to news, poems and opinions, comments and critiques about the University studentry as well as other sectors of the University. The Varsitarian has served as the voice of the studentry asn as training ground for students in objective journalism and responsible leadership. The editorial staff is carefully chosen on the basis of an examination given during the early part of the foirst semester of each school year. Some colleges come up with their own newsletter which serves as outlets for the literary talents of their students. Students on all levels are enjoined to send their literary outputs for publication in the Varsitarian or the newsletter. Campus Student OrganizationThere are several campus student organizations duly registered and recognized through the Division of Student Affairs. Recognition is renewable yearly upon compliance with certaini DSA requirements. Organizations are classified into academic, semi-academic, intergroup, club, fraternities, sororities and dormitory associations. Pursuant to the University policy of integration, organizations which are sectarian, provincial, sectoral and sectionalist in name and in nature are not allowed in the University. Any organization, which identifies itself with any cultural, religious or linguistic groups, which may tend to promote division instead of unification of students, is not also allowed. While students are encouraged to join organizations to enhance their academic and social growth, they are nevertheless expected to maintain satisfactory academic status. Cultural and Social ActivitiesMSU students are treated every now and then to cultural presentations. The presentations are usually under the auspices of the Darangan Cultural Troupe and the Sining Kambayoka. The two constitute among the most colorful of all campus student groups. With their successful presentations in major cities in the Philippines and abroad, they are likewise the most popular and widely acclaimed cultural groups on campus. Campus life in MSU is replete with social activities throughout the year. The University as well as the differnt student organizations are always on the lookout for opportunities to hold social gatherings. The MSU Band and Combo provide the necessary music for various social and official functions of the University. AthleticsAside from scheduled physical education classes, intramural games and the yearly "Palakasan" are held regularly to develop physical fitness and athletic skills among students. Student organizations likewise sponsor competitive games every now and then. The University supports the Sports Scholarship Development Council. The SSDC aims to promote sportmanship and develop athletic skills among students. It gives chances for scholarship to students who have athletic prowess and interest. The program includes track and field, volleyball archery. Softball, basketball, chess, table tennis, golf and sipa.
