A new set of deans of the various colleges/academic units  was elected by the Mindanao State University Board of Regents (BOR) in its recent 219^th Meeting held at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson’s Conference Room, HEDC Building, C.P. Garcia Avenue, UP Diliman on June 27, 2012. Installation of the new deans will be held on Wednesday, 1:30 pm July 4, 2012, at the Dimaporo Gymnasium.

On  September 1, 1961, Mindanao State University was established by virtue of RA 1387 with a special mandate to educate the youth of Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan and integrate the Muslims and other cultural minorities into the mainstream of national life. MSU marks her Golden anniversary on September 1, emerging from a “barren and empty campus filled with cogon grass” to a multi-campus University with a multi-regional service area. Its 11 collegiate campuses are located in 8 provinces in 4 out of the 6 regions in Mindanao. After five regular presidents with regents-in-charge, officers-in-charge and acting presidents in between, MSU celebrates her 50th year with an alumnus and a native son of Marawi City at the helm of the administration, a B.S. Public Administration graduate (1978) from MSU Marawi, President Macapado A. Muslim holds  Ph.D. and M.A. Political Science degrees from University of Hawaii as an East West Center Scholar and MPA from the University of the Philippines. MSU as an institution boasts of several accomplishments, among them are the performances of her graduates and campuses in board and bar examinations and ranking as top performing schools.

When a disaster happens, it is an opportunity to see the best (but sadly, sometimes also the worst) in and among people.  The beauty and the beast, so to  speak.  This is sharing of personal narrative, never designed to be in scholarly fashion, but primarily written as a tribute, a salute to all the good women and men who, in one way or another, gave a part of themselves, in time of need for others.  This is in celebration of the natural goodness of the human spirit (regardless of religion and ethnicity) as well as humbly, a gentle reminder of our humanity.

Mindanao State University (MSU) turns 50 by September 1, 2011! In preparation for the Golden Anniversary of the University, President Macapado A. Muslim signed  a Special Order on December 28, 2011 creating the working committee to spearhead the line-up of activities for the celebration. The working committee, dubbed Team Gold is chaired by Executive Vice-President Datumanong Sarangani and concurrently the University Secretary,  a pioneering alumnus  of the University.

MSU jumpstarts the celebration of its Golden Jubilee  by co-sponsoring a Forum on Food Security  with  the Philippine Institute for Development Studies  (PIDS) on February 9 and a Symposium on “The Role of Philippine APEC Study Center Network  (PASCN) in Regional Development: Sharing Lessons from Research” co-sponsored  by the PASCN the following day,  all at the Marawi Resort Hotel.
