History

On February 19, 1998 two dignitaries met to sign the Memorandum of Agreement establishing the American Studies Resource Center (ASRC). Greta N. Morris, Counselor for Public Affairs, United States Information Service, American Embassy, Manila and Emily M. Marohombsar, President, Mindanao State University, Marawi City agreed to co-sponsor the establishment of American Studies Resource Center (ASRC) in Marawi City to be hosted by the Mindanao State University.

       
 
 

The Center was formally opened on July 20, 1998 with initial collection of 200 titles both print and non-print information sources on a wide range of topics related to American life and culture with Ambassador Thomas C. Hubbard as guest.

 

Mission

Consonant with the mission of MSU, ASRC Marawi aims to play an important role in the attainment of peace and sustainable development in the Autonomus Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), providing up-to-date information sources, sharing resources and expertise.

Objectives

  • To provide resources for research about the U.S.;
  • To provide information support to the American Studies Program of the University;
  • To extend assistance to the University's instruction, research & extension programs by providing up-to-date information sources; and
  • To pursue outreach services to the community of diverse socio-cultural, political, and economic, etc to promote better understanding to attain world peace.

Access to the Collection

  • Books are organized according to the Library of Congress Classification Scheme.
  • Open shelf system is followed.
  • Video/Film showing service is available upon request of faculty member for his class.
  • Materials are for Room Use Only (a photocopier is available in the Center for reproduction of materials.)
  • Validated ID of MSU faculty members, students and special permit issued by other libraries are handed to the librarian in-charge upon entry.

Loan Service

Borrowing privileges are granted only to MSU faculty members who are making syllabus in American Studies and students upon request of their faculty member that such is to be reviewed. Journals and magazines are for room use only.

Internet Service

Internet connection is available at the ASRC. Use of Internet is strictly for research related to American studies only.

  • EBSCOhost- online database containing full text, comprehensive indexes and abstracts of foreign professional journals.

Authorized Users

The Center is open to the following:

  • Faculty members, students and regular staff member of MSU Main and MSU System Colleges.
  • Client from Marawi City and Central Mindanao region whether public or private workers.
  • Alumni of MSU
  • Visiting Researchers

Monday to Thursday                8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Friday                8:00 am - 2:00 pm

(Closed during weekends and holidays.)
