About The Department

The Department of Graduate Studies was established in 2021 through BOR Resolution No. 152.  The Department aims to 1) to provide a venue for professionals and practitioners in forestry, environmental sciences, and other related fields to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in forestry and environmental studies as important tools in enhancing the competency of forestry and environmental practitioners in the delivery of services in the government and private sectors. This is also offered in response to the trend of globalization, regional integration, internationalization and industrialization, making the programs relevant to the VMG of MSUS, and in compliance to CHED Memorandum Order 15, series of 2019. Likewise, there is an emphasis on Forestry Agenda, Forest Management and Development considering the global issues on environmental degradation and the threats of climate change impacts that have been threatening human survival. This Graduate Studies department is currently offering two programs since the first semester of 2021: a) Master of Science in Forestry (MSF), a thesis track, and b) Master in EcoGovernance and Social Forestry (MESF), a non-thesis track but with a capstone poject.

Why Study Here?

The CFES has strong and competent faculty members to deliver the desired theoretical aspects, but probably fall short when it comes to the delivery of state-of-the-art knowledge, particularly when it comes to instrumentation due to lack of modern equipment and instruments in the college. To fill up this gap, the CFES shall enter into strategic partnership with local and foreign universities, industries, and government agencies through forging partnership agreements.

At present, MSU has entered into partnership agreements with local and foreign institutions like Kastamonu University (Turkey), SEAMEO BIOTROP ?(Indonesia), Taruc Abdulrachman University College (Malaysia), State University of Newyork-College of Forestry and Environmental Studies (USA), and many others. these are the Strategic  partners of the College in the delivery of expected knowledge inputs by students in this program. these partner instituitions will be the strategic partners of the college in teaching and learning, research collaboration and innovation, and networking.
