The Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH-BARMM) met with MSU’s Technical Working Group on the Writing of the Bangsamoro History on April 5, 2023, at the OP Conference Room. The meeting aimed to facilitate the implementation of the Writing of the Bangsamoro History program. The BCPCH partners were welcomed by MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, along with his Vice President for Research and Extension, Dr. Glen Lorenzo, Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension and Development, Dr. Fema Abamo, and the members of the TWG. Prof. Sorhaila Latip-Yusoph, the chair of the TWG, presented the tentative activity work plan for the program’s implementation for the entire MSU as a system University.

During the meeting, the BCPCH-BARMM representatives led by its Chairperson Dr. Salem Lingasa discussed the importance of documenting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people. This was supported by BCPCH Commissioner for Lanao del Sur Robert Alonto in saying that Writing of the Bangsamoro History program aims to do justice in getting the perspectives of the Bangsamoro people in writing their history.

The MSU Technical Working Group played a key role in the meeting by presenting a tentative activity work plan for the program’s implementation. The work plan included various activities such as research, documentation, and publication of materials related to the Bangsamoro culture and history. The team emphasized the relevance of MSU as a system that can be a prime mover in getting the historical perspectives of the different cultures in the Bangsamoro region with its campuses in different areas within the region.

The presence of MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, Vice President for Research and Extension, Dr. Glen Lorenzo, Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension and Development, Dr. Fema Abamo, and the members of the TWG demonstrated the university’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro people.

Overall, the meeting was a productive step towards the successful implementation of the Writing of the Bangsamoro History program. It is hoped that this program will contribute to the preservation and promotion of the Bangsamoro culture and history for generations to come. Further, this meeting signified the start of the partnership of MSU and BCPCH where the program serves as a platform for scholars, historians, and experts to work together and document the rich history of the Bangsamoro people.
