About ISED-Science High School

The MSU-Institute of Science Education (MSU-ISED), formerly Science Training (STC), has been established by virtue of BOR res. # 871 series of 1974. This resolution stipulates that the Center be under the supervision of the College of Arts and Sciences and is authorized to offer pre-service and graduate degrees.

At its inception, the unit offered DOST-assisted programs at the Certificate of Teaching Level. In 1980, the Center started operating as a separate unit of the University. The STC director, cognizant of poor preparation of high school graduates in Marawi City proposed for the establishment of a Science High School (SHS), whose concentration is in the Sciences and Mathematics. This was approved by the BOR in 1979 and was implemented in SY 1980-1981. Thus, the MSU-SHS came to be under the management of STC. The MSU-SHS has become well known for its excellence and quality education, when its graduates topped SASE, DOST exams and passed with flying colors state exams like UPCAT, PMA, and others. As mandated by BOR Res. No. 17, 2001, the center has been renamed. Last June 29, 2001, it launched its new name as the Institute of Science Education (ISED).

ISED continues to offer its regular MST and CPT programs: Master of Science in Teaching (MST) major in Physical Science, Elementary Science, Elementary Mathematics, General Science; and CPT programs major in High School Mathematics, Elementary Science, General Science, and Elementary Science and Mathematics. In the future, it would open its other programs such as MST Physics, MST Chemistry, MST Environmental Education, MST High School Math and Ph.D. Science Education major in Chemistry.

The MSU-ISED also manages the Regional Science Teaching Center (RSTC). This is one of the 16 RSTCs in the country, which serves as the implementing arm of the DOST-SEI and its endeavors to improve Science and Mathematics education in the country.

In pursuing the mission, the MSU- Institute of Science Education aspires to become a leading institution of science and mathematics education deeply committed to the training and development of teachers, students and people in the MINSUPALA region.

In pursuing the vision, The Institute of Science and Education aims to strengthen and to revitalize its regional capabilities committed to the development and empowerment of the total person through excellent, relevant, responsive and effective academic and extension programs, material production and researches.
