Prof. Gimena is currently an Assistant Professor of the Fisheries Department of the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. He received his Master’s degree in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management from Vrije Universiteit of Brussels, Ghent University and Antwerp University, Belgium, in 2013 before he entered the faculty force of the College in 2013. He previously served as the Chairman of the Research and Extension Department from 2016 to January, 2018 and as Chairman of the Fisheries Department from February to June in 2018.

Currently, he is designated as a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) of the University, an adviser of the College’s Student Council, and as Co-Chairperson of the College Accreditation Task Force. His scholarly works were published in international journals, while at the same time, presented in different symposia, here and abroad. He also served several consultancy engagements, particularly in the development of Marawi Fisheries Development Plan, the Lanao del Norte Foreshore Management Plan, and trainings on Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management Planning in Caraga Region, Project Proposal Writing and Research Methodologies for High School Science teachers in Zamboanga and Palawan regions.

In 2017, he was chosen to take part of the Faculty Exchange Training during the ERASMUS Program Lifelong Learning at Kastamonu University, in Turkey. Prior to his engagement as a full-time faculty of MSU; he worked as a Program Development Officer of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process under the Office of the President; as a Project Development Officer of the Coastal Resource Management Project in Caraga Region; and as a Research Staff of the Caraga Fisheries Research and Development Center in Butuan City.
