“When you have a dream, you’ve got to grab it and never let go.”

Biography

Omiekalthoum Malawani Angad was born on February 8, 1975, in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, Philippines. She is the second eldest of eight siblings in her family. Her father, Lt. Col. Mangigin Malawani, and her mother, Sobaida Macalangcom Malawani, played important roles in her upbringing.

Omiekalthoum attended Jamiatul Philippines Al-Islmia in Marawi City for her elementary education and later pursued her secondary education at Mindanao State University Integrated Laboratory School, located at the main campus in MSU Marawi City. She fondly recalls her childhood, filled with happiness spent with her parents and siblings. Weekends were often spent at her grandparents’ house, where they engaged in various activities together, such as cleaning the house, tending to the backyard, and washing clothes. They also enjoyed playing games like patentiro and sipang lata with their cousins.

During her youth, Omiekalthoum developed hobbies such as reading books, particularly Archie and Richie, and watching cartoons. Her dream was to become a military officer through the Philippines Military Academy (PMA), but unfortunately, her mother did not allow her to enroll. Instead, she pursued her college education at the University of the East Recto in Manila, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) in 1996. She further pursued her education at Pacasum Marawi City.

Omiekalthoum’s professional journey began when she secured her first job as an Assistant Secretary of the Commission of Appointments at the Regional Legislative Assembly in Cotabato City, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). This opportunity arose while her father served as the secretary of the Commission of Appointments. On January 3, 1999, she married Engr. Abdul Jalil “Calil” Angad, a caring and loving husband. Together, they have been blessed with five children, with their eldest daughter, Sittie Kalthoum Malawani Angad, now a registered Medical Technologist.

In the year 2000, Omiekalthoum worked as an accountant at Adiong Polytechnic State College in Ditsa-an Ramain, Lanao del Sur. In January 2013, she joined the Finance Department of Mindanao State University, initially as a contractual administrative assistant under the administration of President Muslim Macapado. Throughout her tenure, she received a promotion during the administration of President Habib Macaayong. She witnessed realignments in various offices during this time.

In September 2016, Omiekalthoum embarked on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, accompanied by her sister. She considers this experience to be one of the most challenging and happiest moments of her life. In 2018, she performed Umrah alongside her husband. Looking ahead, she plans to perform Hajj again in the year 2022, and she also has aspirations to visit Saudi Arabia for Umrah either this year or the next.

Omiekalthoum Malawani Angad’s life is a testament to her dedication to education, family, and religious practices. Her experiences and achievements reflect her strong character and the values instilled in her by her parents and upbringing.
