About The Department

The Civil Engineering Department at Mindanao State University, a pioneering program within the College of Engineering, was established in 1964. Under the leadership of competent department chairpersons, the department has a long-standing tradition of excellence. Since its inception, the department has produced over a thousand of skilled and registered civil engineers who have made significant impacts globally.

Currently staffed by a dedicated team of 13 faculty members, the department is committed to shaping the next generation of civil engineers. Our curriculum combines rigorous theoretical instruction with hands-on field experience, ensuring that students gain practical skills alongside academic knowledge. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive and enriching student experience, preparing graduates for successful careers in civil engineering.

Program Educational Objectives and Outcomes

Department Objectives

  1. To sustain quality faculty members and develop them academically, technically, professionally, and holistically;
  2. To sustain quality students and develop them academically, technically, and holistically;
  3. To sustain the acquisition and development of appropriate laboratory and other support facilities including related equipment, programs, and services;
  4. To sustain, expand, and further develop quality, relevant, and responsive curriculum in civil engineering;
  5. To sustain endeavor towards the simplification of bureaucracy ensuring prompt availability of research funds;
  6. To explore, expand, and develop civil engineering and related research which are relevant to the MINSUPALA Region as well as the Philippines and the ASEAN;
  7. To explore, sustain, expand, and develop linkages with local and foreign agencies;
  8. To conduct and sustain the appraisal and development of research potentials and local resources;
  9. To have sustainable access to existing as well as new technologies;
  10. To conduct seminars, workshops, symposia, lectures, and projects geared towards the application, and adaptation of new technologies; and
  11. To conduct relevant extension services within the bounds of the service area and concern of the University.

Program Outcomes

  1. To keep abreast of latest developments in the specific field of practice.
  2. Effectively communicate using English and Filipino, orally and in writing.
  3. Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams (PQF Level 6 descriptor).
  4. Demonstrate professional, social, ethical, and environmental responsibility.
  5. Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage” (based on RA 7722).
  6. Advocate for peace in multicultural settings.
  7. Be inclined towards innovation and Technopreneurship.
  8. Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, physical, life and information sciences; and civil engineering sciences appropriate to the field of practice.
  9. Conduct appropriate civil engineering experiments, analyze and interpret data and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  10. Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints in accordance with standards.
  11. Identify, formulate and solve complex civil engineering problems.
  12. Engage in life-long learning, discuss the latest developments, and understand at least one specialized field of civil engineering practice.
  13. Recognize the effects and impact of civil engineering projects on nature and society, and of the civil engineers’ social and ethical responsibilities.
  14. Apply techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for the specialized field of civil engineering practice.
  15. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  16. Ability to generate new knowledge in the form of research or developmental projects to support national, regional or local developmental plans.
