About the OVCAA

The Office ofย  the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA) is headed by a Vice Chancellor who shall assist the Chancellor in the management of affairs of the autonomous campus. The Vice Chancellor shall be appointed by the Board of Regents upon recommendation of the Chancellor through the University President. He shall serve for a term of not more than three (3) years without prejudice to reappointment. He shall perform such functions and duties as the Chancellor may assign (Art. 9, section 103).

To assist the Vice Chancellor on performing all the functions in the OVCAA, Special Assistants (SAs) are designated from the academic ranks to focus on specific tasks considered as routine transactions in the office. Section 112 of Art.9 defines Special Assistants to the Vice Chancellor are specialists who may be drawn from the faculty, an additional assignment, and shall be designated by the Chancellor. Moreover, the Administrative Staff support the respective functions of the Special Assistants for the efficient delivery of services to faculty and students.

The MSU Code of Governance (BOR Res. No.92, s.1992) provides the structural and organizational bases of the OVCAA.ย  Art.9, Sec.103 stipulates that โ€œunless otherwise provided, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs shall be responsible to the Chancellor for the supervision of academic support service units to include the Library and Secondary Education, Office of the Registrar and Office of the Student Affairs.ย  The Vice Chancellor shall be responsible to the Chancellor for the supervision of academic support service units to include the Library and Secondary Education, Office of the Registrar and Office of the Student Affairs.ย  He/She shall be responsible for the supervision of the coordination staffs for instruction, research and extension.ย  He/She shall assist in the planning, monitoring, reviewing and coordination of policies, programs, systems and standards pertaining to instructional, curricular, student, academic personnel and library matters of the campus.ย  He/She shall be responsible for the implementation of admission and scholarship programs.ย  Lastly, he/she shall perform such other functions and duties as the Chancellor may assign.

A. Structure and Organization

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA) of the Mindanao State University, Marawi Campus, is under the jurisdiction of the President/Chancellor, based on its Campus Structure. Offices under the direct supervision of the OVCAA include:ย 

  1. The Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for the Academic Affairs (Secondary Education/External Units);
  2. Deans/Heads (Colleges/Other Degree Granting Units);
  3. The Registrar;
  4. University Library;
  5. Division of Student Affairs;
  6. Textbook Board;
  7. MSU Marawi Senior High Schools (Integrated Laboratory School, University Training Center, and Institute of Science Education);
  8. Office of Admissions;
  9. National Service Training Program;
  10. Audio-Visual Center;
  11. Sports;
  12. Scholastic Development Office;
  13. Cultural Affairs Office; and
  14. Scholarship Center.
B. Routine Operations

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (OVCAA) performs the following routine as specified in Art.9, Sec.103 of the MSU Code of Governance:

  1. Ensure that academic policies, guidelines, and procedures are well managed and properly implemented;
  2. Foster standard of excellence by taking the lead in offering relevant curricular programs that includes proposing, revising, and evaluating such programs for accreditation and attainment of Center of Development (COD) and Center of Excellence (COE) status;
  3. Respond to the needs of students to enhance their performance in both curricular and extra-curricular activities;
  4. Facilitate the faculty hiring and recruitment process;
  5. Expedite the awarding of items to qualified faculty members, their academic growth and development, faculty teaching performance, grant of permanent tenure, and promotion; and,
  6. Engage in consultative and fruitful dialogues with the various line offices.

AMERKHAN G. CABARO, Ph.D

Dr. Amerkhan G. Cabaro has been designated Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the MSU-Main Campus per Special Order No. 236, series of 2022. Before his designation, Dr. Cabaro served as an elected dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM).
