MSU Main Campus - Marawi City > Sociology Department

About the Department

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology was initially opened during the early 1960s as one of the departments under the then College of Liberal Arts, as pioneering base college of the Mindanao State University in Marawi City. Through the efforts if Dr. Mamitua Saber, it offered the AB Sociology program. It mid-1990s, the Department of Anthropology was administratively merged with it in view of the government’s campaign for national austerity. The Department’s current academic program is a response to the educational, socio-cultural, economic and political challenges of a changing society within a globalizing world.

Vision

A lead Department recognized in mainstreaming the Muslims and other Indigenous People into the national body politic through professional development attuned to the needs of contemporary realities.

Mission

It aims to develop and maintain a pool of highly acclaimed faculty members in instruction, research, extension and peace advocacy and to train and develop competent, morally upright, and culturally-sensitive social scientists who will work for a peaceful, progressive and sustainable society.
