The Mindanao State University (MSU) successfully held its “Kumustahan sa mga Ka-Barangay” (Community Check-in with Barangays within MSU Campus) at the CPA Amphitheater, bringing together barangay leaders, residents, and top university officials in a dialogue aimed at fostering closer collaboration and addressing mutual concerns.
The event was attended by MSU System President Atty. Paisalin P.D. Tago, CPA, along with other key university officials. It served as a platform for open discussion on current issues, community needs, development opportunities, and ways to enhance the partnership between MSU and its surrounding barangays.
“Kumustahan sa Barangay” is an immersion and outreach initiative led by the MSU Community Relations Office (CRO). It aims to bring the university closer to its host communities by providing updates on university programs while listening directly to the concerns and aspirations of barangay residents. Previous activities under this program included visits to the seven barangays surrounding the MSU campus.
In his remarks, President Tago emphasized the importance of genuine engagement with local communities as part of MSU’s broader commitment to inclusive development, peacebuilding, and quality education in Mindanao. The gathering highlighted the university’s role not only as an academic institution but also as a partner in community progress.
Attendees, the Barangay Representatives, appreciated the face-to-face interaction, which allowed for the exchange of ideas on topics such as education access, livelihood opportunities, peace and order, and university extension services that could benefit the barangays.
Further, CPA Dean Aisha Minukon emphasized how the University is committed in helping the communities it serves through instruction, research and extension.
The event underscored President Tago’s ongoing efforts to strengthen MSU’s relationship with its immediate Barangays within the campus.
This “Kumustahan” initiative is expected to continue as a regular platform for dialogue, ensuring that MSU remains responsive and relevant to the needs of its host communities.
Finally, the Kumustahan ended with the commitment signing done with all the Barangay Representatives and the MSU Officials on the commitment wall provided by CRO.
