Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mindanao State University – Main Campus! About The Department

Since its inception, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has become one of the leading engineering departments in the region. Our department is proud to be home to a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff who are deeply passionate about engineering and dedicated to making a positive impact on society. Many of our graduates have gone on to excel in various industries, not just within the region but throughout Mindanao, the Philippines, and even globally. Additionally, our department has produced topnotchers who have achieved exceptional success in their professional careers.

Programs Offered

We offer a comprehensive Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program tailored to meet the needs of students at various stages of their academic and professional journeys. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to deliver a robust foundation in mechanical engineering principles.

Program Educational Objectives

1.) Established in Mechanical Engineering and allied field in the area of research and development, technology innovation, and management which enable him/her to hold a position with increasing responsibilities in an organization.
2.) Sustained career development through graduate studies and/or professional training.
3.) A sense of social responsibility, good ethical behavior, and professional commitment through involvement in community engagement activities and active membership in professional organizations in the field of Mechanical Engineering which promote social awareness and equity.

 

Program Outcomes

1.) To keep abreast of latest developments in the specific field of practice.
2.) Effectively communicate using English and Filipino, orally and in writing.
3.) Work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
4.) Demonstrate professional, social, ethical, and environmental responsibility.
5.) Preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage”.
6.) Advocate for peace in multi-cultural settings
7.) Demonstrate inclination towards innovation and technopreneurship.
8.) Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences, engineering fundamentals and mechanical engineering specialist knowledge to the solution of complex engineering problems.
9.) Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
10.) Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
11.) Conduct investigations of complex problems using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
12.) Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering problems, with an understanding of the limitations.
13.) Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice and solutions to complex engineering problems.
14.) Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of professional engineering work in the solution of complex engineering problems in societal and environmental contexts.
15.) Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.
16.) Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
17.) Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
18.) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering management principles and economic decision-making and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
19.) Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
20.) Ability to generate new knowledge in the form of research or developmental projects to support national, regional or local developmental plans.

 

Industry Collaboration and OJT Program

Our On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program offers students the opportunity to work hands-on with leading companies across a diverse range of sectors, including mining, hydropower, manufacturing, construction, and energy.
