Thousands of people gathered at the Mindanao State University (MSU) Oval Grounds on March 21, 2026 to perform the Eid Al-Fitr prayer, marking a joyous conclusion to the holy month of Ramadhan. The event was characterized by a deep sense of unity as the community stood together under the morning sun to offer thanks and participate in the congregational prayer.

The successful turnout was the result of days of intensive preparation by the university administration headed by MSU System President Atty. Paisalin P.D. Tago, CPA. Along with the university officials and some personnel, President Tago personally inspected the site leading up to the event. Their hands-on approach ensured that all logistics, from crowd management to security and prayer arrangements, were ready to accommodate the massive influx of people.

Following the religious services, the atmosphere turned festive with a community “salo-salo” where attendees shared foods and exchanged greetings. The celebration emphasized the spirit of Meranaw hospitality, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and local residents in a shared display of gratitude and camaraderie.

Namrodin R. Sampaco, an MSU student who participated in the festivities with his family, shared his appreciation for the effort put into the day. “Alhamdulillah, this is the best Eid celebration we have attended here at MSU so far. There are so many people and plenty of surprises. Thank you so much to the MSU administration for organizing such an event,” he said.

Adding to the excitement, the university hosted a grand raffle draw that distributed a wide array of essential household items to lucky participants. Winners took home cash and major prizes including refrigerators, a television, and a gas burner range. Other prizes included water dispensers, rice cookers, electric fans, heaters, blenders, and portable stoves, among others.

As the event concluded, the MSU community celebrated not only the end of the fast but also the strengthened bonds of a community united by faith and generosity.
