The Mindanao State University (MSU) National Service Training Program (NSTP), in partnership with the Philippine Society of NSTP Educators and Implementers, Inc. (PSNEI), successfully commenced the 2nd PSNEI Mindanao Trainers’ Training Conference-Workshop, a three-day capacity-building initiative held from April 9-11, 2026 at the CHTM Pavilion, MSU Campus, Marawi City, serving as the official host institution.
Anchored on the theme “Transforming Mindanao Educators and Implementers from Volunteerism to Action Towards National Development,” the conference gathers NSTP educators and implementers from Regions 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), highlighting strong interregional collaboration toward strengthening NSTP implementation and advancing civic education across Mindanao.
The opening program was marked by solemn and meaningful ceremonies, including an interfaith prayer, the singing of “Lupang Hinirang,” “Bagong Pilipinas,” and the BARMM Hymn, followed by the Oath of Allegiance to the Philippine Flag.
A major cultural highlight of the program was the performance titled “Bangsamoro Dance” by the MSU Sining Kambayoka Ensemble.
The performance portrayed the cultural richness of Mindanao as home to three major groups, the Muslim, Lumad, and Christian Filipinos. Through expressive movement and storytelling, it emphasized that while each group possesses distinct traditions and identities, all are united by a shared aspiration for peace, development, and unity. The presentation underscored that diversity in Mindanao is a source of strength rooted in mutual respect and collective harmony.
Participants and guests were formally introduced, followed by an overview of the training delivered by Aldrin D. Dais.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Abdulcader M. Ayo, representing System President Atty. Paisalin P. Tago, who emphasized MSU’s role as host institution and its commitment to advancing transformative NSTP programs.
A Message for Unity and Empowerment for NSTP Success was delivered by Dr. Carmelo John E. Vidal, who highlighted the importance of collaboration in strengthening youth engagement, volunteerism, and nation-building.
The keynote address was delivered by Hon. Jamil Faisal S. Adiong, who inspired participants with insights on youth leadership, civic responsibility, and community empowerment.
An engaging sofa chat followed, focusing on the theme “Fostering Security Culture: Preventing Extremism in Mindanao.” The discussion featured distinguished speakers Dr. Acram A. Latiph and Ustadh Eisa Q. Javier.
The conversation emphasized the importance of peace education, inclusive development, and community resilience as key strategies in preventing violent extremism. The speakers underscored that fostering a security culture requires collective responsibility, interfaith understanding, and sustained engagement among educators, youth, and communities.
The program was smoothly facilitated by Dr. Cecille D. Quijano, who served as Master of Ceremonies for Day 1 and will also host Day 3. For Day 2, facilitation was led by Prof. Sandie May A. Eguia, ensuring the seamless flow of sessions and activities throughout the conference.
Day 1 concluded successfully, setting a strong foundation for the succeeding days of the conference. As the program continues through Days 2 and 3, participants engage in further discussions, training sessions, and collaborative exchanges aimed at enhancing NSTP implementation across the region.
The 2nd PSNEI Mindanao Trainers’ Training Conference-Workshop, hosted by MSU, stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to academic leadership, peacebuilding, and regional cooperation. It reflects a shared vision among MSU, PSNEI, and participating regions to transform volunteerism into meaningful action for national development and sustainable peace in Mindanao.
