Mindanao State University (MSU)–Main Campus in Marawi City hosted a significant Pagana Meranaw, a traditional Meranaw cultural gathering, at the International Convention Center today, July 11, 2025. The event brought together some high-ranking national and regional government officials, who received a warm welcome from university officials led by MSU System President Atty. Paisalin P.D. Tago, CPA. Esteemed attendees included Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny M. Angara, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and former Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary Nasser C. Pangandaman, and GMA 7 Vice President Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes.
The Pagana Meranaw harmoniously blended traditional practices with contemporary relevance. A powerful du’a, a traditional Islamic prayer, was delivered by Prof. Mohammad Jihan M. Macarambon, PhD, ShL, setting a reverent tone. Following this, Prof. Sorhaila L. Latip-Yusoph, PhD, presented a scholarly address on the profound significance of the Pagana Meranaw within Meranaw culture and its crucial role in fostering unity and mutual understanding.
Prior to the cultural feast, a meeting was held at Camp Ranao, Marawi City. This meeting focused on the BARMM’s essential contribution to funding key Marawi City rehabilitation projects. Discussions also included the Implementing Agencies’ action plans in collaboration with the DBM and the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development (OPAMRD).
The hosting of the Pagana Meranaw demonstrated MSU’s commitment to fostering collaborative partnerships between government agencies and the local community in support of Marawi’s ongoing rehabilitation. The university’s role in facilitating this significant cultural event highlights its dedication to community engagement and its position as a key stakeholder in the city’s recovery and future development.
