A Deep Dive into the Peace Process and Democratic Values
The forum brought together a diverse group of participants, including local government officials, educators, religious leaders, civil society organizations, women’s groups, and youth. The day’s agenda was designed to provide comprehensive insights into critical aspects of the region’s transition. Key sessions included:
* “Journey of the Peace Process” led by the Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG), which provided a historical context and deeper understanding of the milestones achieved in the Bangsamoro peace accord. This session highlighted the hard-won gains and the importance of preserving peace.
* An “Orientation on the Electoral Code” by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), which clarified the rules, voter rights, and the unique parliamentary structure of the BARMM. This was crucial for equipping citizens with the knowledge needed for informed participation.
* A session on “Islamic Teachings on Leadership” facilitated by Aleem Saad from the Ulama’s League of the Philippines (UIP). The discussion focused on reinforcing the principles of integrity, justice, and accountability as foundational pillars of good governance, urging future leaders to embody these values.
