MSU, Marawi City, and 7 Barangays Sign Agreement to Enhance Peace and Security
 
Marawi City, Philippines – A landmark agreement was signed today between Mindanao State University (MSU), the City Government of Marawi, and the seven barangays within MSU to enhance cooperation on maintaining peace and order.
 
The tripartite memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed at 10 AM on January 19, 2024 in the Office of the President Conference Room at the MSU main campus. Signing on behalf of MSU was University President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, Marawi City Mayor Majul U. Gandamra signed for the city, while the barangay chairpersons signed on behalf of their respective communities.
 
The MOA lays out a framework for cooperation between the three parties on matters concerning security, crime prevention, emergency response, and maintenance of peace and order within MSU and its surrounding area. As opened by the University Secretary, Atty. Shidik Abantas, he said, “This event is historical for both MSU and the City of Marawi.” This event highlighted that this cooperation was an important gesture that could have been there since the creation of the campus within the city.
 
The MOA signing was witnessed by top university officials, city hall executives, police and military representatives, student leaders, and barangay constituents. In his remarks, Mayor Gandamra said that this is the City government’s way of supporting quality education; and concerted effort to pursue peace in the city and the MSU campus.
 
The agreement will take effect immediately and remains valid in this administration subject to regular reviews and renewals.
