MSU-Marawi Holds 1st R&D Summit

The inaugural Mindanao State University – Marawi Research and Development Summit was held on June 15-17, 2023, at Estregan Beach Resort in Sultan Naga Dimaporo Municipality, Lanao del Norte. The summit was envisioned to establish the campus’s 10-point Research and Extension agenda that will be given priority from 2023 to 2028.
 
The summit was attended by over 200 researchers, academics, and University Officials from various colleges and research units of the university including the representatives and officials of the MSU Integrated Campuses. The event provided a platform for participants to share their research interests and thematic strengths in order to be part of president’s research and extension agenda for the next five years.
 
The summit also featured panel discussions on topics such as research issues vis-a-vis the teaching loads, funding opportunities, and the role of research in making MSU Marawi part of the world ranking. The series of discussions were done with R & E coordinators, department chairpersons and college deans.
 
After a thorough and scientific process, the 10 MSU Marawi Research and Extension Agenda for 2023-2028 has culminated in the following priority agenda:
 
– Human and Community Development
– Culture, Tourism & Arts
– Language, Media and Communication Research
– Industry, Innovation, Infrastructure, Energy & Emerging Technology
– Sustainable Economic Production, Food Security & Poverty Alleviation
– Bio-physico-chemical Environment
– Health Research & Development
– Law and Governance
– Basic Research
– Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate-change Adaptation
 
The summit was successfully organized and spearheaded by the office of the Vice President for Research and Extension under the leadership of Dr. Glen Lorenzo; the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension and Development, headed by Dr. Fema Abamo and with the University Extension Services office led by Dr. Melencio Jalova, Jr. The said summit was graced and supported by the MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno. This said summit was co-sponsored by the MSU- Lanao Norte Agricultural College (LNAC) head by Dr. Indihra D. Tawan-tawan.
